Water Bill Too High in Murrieta Hot Springs?
6/2/2021 (Permalink)
It’s always a good idea to periodically inspect your home for water leaks. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) water leaks from over eleven million homes amount to one trillion gallons of water waste each year in the United States. SERVPRO® of Murrieta mitigates water damage in Murrieta Hot Springs homes throughout the year, and many of these restorations could have been minimized if the water damage had been discovered sooner.
Here are some tips from the EPA for checking and determining if you are wasting water, and if so, how to check for leaks:
Take a look at your water usage during a colder month, such as January or February. If a family of four exceeds 12,000 gallons per month, there are serious leaks.
Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter changes at all, you probably have a leak.
Identify toilet leaks by placing a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If any color shows up in the bowl after ten minutes, you have a leak.
Examine faucet gaskets and pipe fittings for any water on the outside of the pipe to check for surface leaks.
