SERVPRO of Murrieta is Always Prepared to Restore Property

September

SERVPRO® of Murrieta: count on us to provide necessary and excellent restoration (including cleaning and disinfecting) and important information about dealing with disasters.

FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) helped make September into National Preparedness Month in 2004.

It’s a chance to remind people to be ready for disasters. One form of preparation is to have an emergency kit with supplies for each family member. FEMA suggests people have at least a 3-day supply for each person in an evacuation, and at least a 2-week supply for each person in a shelter-in-place emergency.

We also bring dubiously necessary facts (but undoubtably correct ones), such as:

  • “September” comes from the Latin word “septem”, meaning “seven” because it was the seventh of ten months in the ancient Roman calendar.
  • Around 451 B.C.E., Roman leaders decided to confuse schoolchildren forever by adding two months to the beginning of the year, which made September the ninth month in the calendar while keeping the name.
  • Fall begins in September in the Northern hemisphere (Autumn equinox); it begins in March in the Southern hemisphere.
  • The Vernal (Spring) equinox is in September in the Southern hemisphere; it begins in March in the Southern hemisphere.
  • September’s birthstone is the sapphire, but expensive gems are probably welcome any time of the year.
  • Until now, we didn’t know that there were September birth flowers as well as a birthstone. The flowers are morning glory, forget-me-not, and aster.
